2025 Prayag Kumbh Mela; also known as 2025 Maha Kumbh, to be held at convergence place of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, will be a once-in-12-years event commencing on 13 January 2025 and ending on 26 February 2025. This event will be followed by Ardh Kumbh of 2019 Prayag Kumbh Mela. It is expected to attract around 400 million visitors. It has a significance of being held once in 12 year period in Hinduism as it is believed that the battle for nectar between Gods and Demons lasted for 12 years. The event is also expected to be held in Haridawar, Ujjain, and Nashik.

Significance

Maha Kumbh Mela, which is a symbol of the victory of Gods over demons, in 2025 will be held as once a 12 year event starting on 13 January 2025 to 26 February 2025. The event will be held in cities of Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik, and it is held every 12 years as it is believed that the battle for nector between Gods and demons lasted for 12 years. The activities in the Mela area started with land allotment to the Akharas by the mela administration authorities constituted by Uttar Pradesh State Government.

Visitors

Maha Kumbh 2025 Mela is expected to be attended by 400 million visitors and will have visiting dignitaries from the United States, Israel, France, and many other countries.

Hygiene

Maha Kumbh 2025 Mela will have sophisticated cleaning standards with one sweeper for every 10 toilets and one supervisor monitoring a batch of 10 sweepers.

Infrastructure

Maha Kumbh 2025 Mela will have advanced fire fighting vehicles as for protection against any fire related incidents. The Uttar Pradesh State Government will depute 500 dedicated Ganga Praharis to ensure the cleanliness of the river during Maha Kumbh.Total cost of 83 project around mela area is estimated to be 1428.68 crore out of which 47 projects are completed by November 15 and rest are expected to be completed soon. Artificial intelligence tools and chatbots are being used to assist tourists and pilgrims.

Maha Kumbh 2025 Mela will be assisted by "Mahakumbh Mela 2025 app" which has important locations of ghats, temples, and other major religious sites for the support of tourists and pilgrims.

Maha Kumbh 2025 Mela important dates for Shahi Snan are-

  • January 13 - Being the occasion of Paush Purnima, the first royal bath of Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 will take place.
  • January 14 - Being the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a grand royal bath will take place.
  • January 29 - Being the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, a grand royal bath will take place.
  • February 03 - Being the occasion of Basant Panchami, a royal bath will take place.
  • February 12 - Being the occasion of Magh Purnima, royal bath will take place.
  • February 26 - Being the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, royal bath will take place.

Mela Schedule

Maha Kumbh 2025 Mela will be held in four different locations as per below schedule-

  • Haridwar - The mela in Haridwar is held on the occasion when the Sun is in Aries and Jupiter is in Aquarius.
  • Prayagraj - The mela in Prayagraj is held on the occasion when the Sun is in Capricorn.
  • Nashik - The Maha Kumbh mela in Nashik is held on the occasion when the Sun and Jupiter are in certain positions.
  • Ujjain - The Maha Kumbh mela in Ujjain is held on the occasion when the Sun is in Aries and Jupiter is in Leo.
