Bangladeshi islamic scholar

Harun Izhar is a Bangladeshi Deobandi islamic scholar, writer and religious personality. He is the former education, culture secretary and central leader of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. And Assistant Director of Jamiatul Uloom Al-Islamia Lalkhan Bazar. He is the son of Izharul Islam Chowdhury, president of Nizam-e-Islam Party and former influential leader of Hefazet Islam.

Personal life

He is the son of Nizam-e-Islam Party President Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury. And he has a younger brother Musa Bin Izhar.

Education

He studied at Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam in Chittagong and now currently he is the Assistant Director of Jamiatul Uloom Al-Islamia Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa in Chittagong.

Arrest

In 2009, Izhar and two Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives were arrested in Chittagong while planning an attack on the Indian High Commission and US Embassy.

On July 10, 2013, Harun Izhar was arrested in connection with the horrific grenade blast in Chittagong's Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa. He was in prison for a long time. Later he was released.

In 2021, he was arrested by RAB from Chittagong's Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa on the night of April 28 that year on the charge of directly supporting the sabotage that took place in different parts of the country around the issue of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival in Bangladesh to celebrate Bangladeshi independence. Later, he was released from Chittagong Central Jail on Monday night, May 22, 2023.
